Wm. Chapman

William Ray Chapman, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Chapman, was born on a farm south of Britt on May 10, 1888. Here he grew to manhood and in 1917 was called to the colors and sent to Camp Dodge where he was in training a year. Being honorably discharged, he returned to Britt and completed his life here.

Being attacked by tuberculosis he had been treated locally until on May 4, 1937, he was taken to the Veterans Hospital at Des Moines. There he died at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14th, aged 49 years, 2 months and 4 days. The body was returned to Britt for burial.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. N. McMillan at the Wigton-Russ Funeral Home on Friday afternoon. Members of the American Legion conferred full military honors and pall bearers were fellow veterans of the World War.

Mr. Chapman is survived by one sister, Mrs. E. H. Cummings of Clear Lake; and one brother, Oscar at Staples, Minn., and by other relatives and friends.
