C. M. Chapman, Pioneer, Gone

He Had Lived In Hancock County More Than Half A Century

Leaves Four Children, Nine Grandchildren, Three Great Grandchildren

C. M. Chapman, one of the early pioneers of Hancock county passed away last evening at 8:30 o'clock following a long siege of illness from cancer.

Mr. Chapman and family came from Worth county, Iowa, early in 1876 and were nearing the half century of time lived here when on May 1, 1925 , Mrs. Chapman died. Since that time Mr. Chapman has failed gradually. When they first came to this county Mr. Chapman purchased what is now the Lena Steffen farm, situated three miles north of Kanawha. Later he purchased a farm four miles north and a mile east of Kanawha. Practically all of his active life was spent upon the farm but a few years were spent in Britt.

At Northwood, Iowa, on December 19, 1869, took place the wedding of C. M. Chapman and Julia A. Perkins. Four children were born to them, Cyrus Chapman, Mrs. Myrtle Cummins, Oscar Chapman, of Staples, Minn., and William. There also survive nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Chapman lived an exemplary life, was a hard worker and never failed to lend a hand where it would assist a neighbor. He was of friendly disposition and made friends easily and kept them. He lived to the age of 77 years.

Funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church. Burial will be made in the family lot at Evergreen cemetery.
