Pioneer Dead

Pioneer Of Iowa Passes To His Reward

The hearts of the people of the entire community were filled with sorrow by the sad news of the passing of Michael Tobin, who departed this earth on last Thursday, after an illness of some two months.

His death is a greater grief to the bereaved family, coming as it does so closely to the passing of the mother, who was called to her reward only three short months ago.

Mr. Tobin has been a resident of this county for the past twenty-four years and never was there a more congenial or better beloved man. He was a friend to everyone; his thots [thoughts] were ever for his family and others, rather than for himself.

Deceased has been a true and a faithful member of the Roman Catholic church from his childhood and his life companion was taken from his side a short time ago.

Funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Boniface church and interment made in the Catholic cemetery.

Obituary

Michael Tobin was born in Petersburg, Canada in 1832 and died in Garner, Hancock County, Iowa on March 29th, 1917, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 13 days.

He was united in marriage to Bridget May in 1855, who preceded his death by three months. To this union were born twelve children, some whom passed away in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. David Molloch, who died a year and a half ago.

Those living are T. J. Tobin of Garner; P. N. of Nashua; J. R. of Estelline, S. Dak.; and L. A. and M. H. Tobin of Garner. The daughters are Mrs. J. R. Thornton of Watonga, Okla. and Mrs. Joseph Beyers of Garner. Nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also remain to mourn the death of a beloved grandfather.

Deceased removed with his family to this state in 1866 and came to this county 24 years ago, locating on a farm west of Garner where he finally passed to his reward.

Funeral services were held Monday morning April 2 from St. Boniface church and interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

May his Soul Rest in Peace.
