Verda N. (Peterson) Stratton, 89, of Britt, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Private family burial will be at a later date

Verda, the daughter of Reuben and Evelyn (Gifford) Peterson was born December 6, 1920 in Denhart, Iowa.

On March 8, 1941, Verda was united in marriage to John Stratton. The couple was blessed with one son Monty.

Verda was employed at the milk plant in Britt and later at Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

Verda attended the United Methodist Church in Britt where she was active in the Women’s Society and the quilting group. She also enjoyed golfing, traveling and being with people. She was a resident at the Summit House since it opened and enjoyed spending time with the residents and its many activities.

Verda is survived by her daughter-in-law Stefene (Everett) Stratton; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister RuBee (Emory) Schroeder of Britt; brother Raymon Peterson of Mankato, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son Monty, three brothers: Lewis, Clair and Calvin Peterson, one sister Edna (Peterson) Eden, one nephew and two nieces.
