Evelyn D. (Loy) Stalzer
August 18, 1924 - July 29, 2008

Evelyn Stalzer, 83, of Britt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City on Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

Funeral mass for Evelyn Stalzer will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Rev. Henry P. Huber officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery near Britt.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.

Evelyn Dorothy Loy, the daughter of Clara L (Kumsher) Loy and Floyd E. Loy was born August 18, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. Evelyn graduated in 1942 from Britt High School.

Evelyn was united in marriage to her first husband, John (Jack) C. Steenlage in May 1942. This union was blessed with five children. Later in her life Evelyn was united in marriage to Leroy C. Stalzer on August 19, 1972. Evelyn was a homemaker, worked at the Britt Community Schools (Cafeteria Department) and the Hancock County Memorial Hospital (Housekeeping). She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Evelyn always cherished her time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and as a Hospice Volunteer, especially tobogganing and playing goalie in soccer.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 36 years Leroy; three sons: Bob (Bobbi) Steenlage of Galesville, Wisconsin, Les (Janet) Steenlage of Coralville, Iowa, Jerry (Sonja) Steenlage of Hot Springs, South Dakota; two daughters: Nancy Steenlage Hrubes of Garner and Cyndi (Dave Gerdes) Steenlage of Kanawha. Twenty-one grandchildren: Eric Steenlage, Keith Steenlage, Sarah (Noah) Slaby, Esther Steenlage, Timothy Steenlage, John Steenlage, Barak Steenlage, Ella Steenlage, Kaila (Wes) Fairchild, Brandon Steenlage, Britney (Joel) Meister, Joh (Kathleen) Steenlage, Anna Steenlage, Eli (Jess) Steenlage, Bridget (Wade) Thompson, Heidi Hrubes, Angela Hrubes, Tiffani (Tim) Martin, Nicholas Hrubes, Scott Hrubes and Lyndsi Hrubes. Eight great-grandchildren: Makenzi, Madison, Trevor, Asia, Dominic, Destiny, Keri and Kanah. Aunt Tressa Anderson, sister-in-law Viola Steenlage Holck, brother-in-law Elmer and Jo Stalzer, sister-in-law Bernice (Stalzer) Elbert; sister-in-laws Ellen Stalzer, Gladys Stalzer, Alice Stalzer; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Edward F. Loy; first husband John C. (Jack) Steenlage; grandson Obidiah Steenlage and granddaughter Deborah Steenlage.

Memorial may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Cancer Society or Cerebral Palsy.
