July 12, 1922 - March 26, 2013Gladys Schmid, 90, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Westview Care Center in Britt.
A funeral service for Gladys Schmid will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation for Gladys will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Gladys Marie (Whitehurst) Schmid, the daughter of Noah and Zora (Wyant) Whitehurst, was born near Britt on July 12, 1922. She attended rural school in Hancock County and later graduated from Garner High School in 1940 with a normal training certificate. Gladys taught rural school in Hancock and Cerro Gordo counties, and also worked at Stoddard Manufacturing in Mason City.
On November 16, 1945 Gladys was united in marriage to Clarence Schmid after he returned from WW II. This union was blessed with 3 sons: Keith, David and Tim. Clarence and Gladys farmed near Crystal Lake until 1966 at which time they moved to Britt.
Gladys became a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church at Crystal Lake and also attended the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. She enjoyed music, reading, going out to eat and shopping. Most of all, Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by her 3 sons: Keith, David and Tim; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Irene Pletcher; along with several nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; 4 sisters; and 5 brothers.
