Bert Richter

Bert Richter died at a Mason City hospital Tuesday morning, following an operation for appendicitis. He had been ailing since last Tuesday, but a doctor was not called until Sunday. Monday he was taken to the hospital and an operation was performed the same day. His appendix was ruptured and he lived but a few hours.

The funeral will be held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Bert Richter was born in German on July 28, 1854, and passed his 72nd birthday last week. As a young man he came to the United States, and lived in St. Louis for a time. He then came to Garner, and on Dec. 23, 1898, he was married to Johanna Schultz at St John's Church northeast of Garner, the Rev. Richter who was pastor of that congregation officiating.

Only one child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richter, a daughter who is now Mrs. Adolph Hollatz.

William Richter, who lives in Garner, is Bert's only blood relative living in this country, but he has many relatives still living in Germany.
