Services For Julius Nolte

Goodell - Funeral services for Julius Nolte were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Fulton Funeral home at Belmond and at 2 o'clock at the E.U.B. church in Goodell, with the pastor, the Rev. Park E. Miller officiating.

Casket bearers were Edgar Mayhew, Harvey Boller, William Boller, Robert McNutt, Harvey Harberts and Elmer Kienenberger. Burial took place in the family lot in Amsterdam cemetery east of Goodell.

Julius Friedlander Nolte, son of Charles and Hannah Nolte, was born at Cedar Falls, December 16th, 1880, and passed away at his home Monday evening March 16th, 1953, at the age of 72 years. He was the ninth of a family of ten boys, and with his parents and brothers moved to an acreage south east of Goodell, where he grew to manhood, working as a farm hand and at various other occupations.

On Sept. 24th, 1905, he was united in marriage to Minnie Christie also of Goodell, and to this union were born six children. The family lived in this community employed at various farm places. In May 1927, Mrs. Nolte died very suddenly after which Mr. Nolte did his best to keep the family together. He made his home for several years with his children, after they began making their own separate homes. A few years ago he moved to a small house in Goodell, where he always enjoyed his surrounding neighbors and friends about town.

The past two years "Jule", as he was known to everyone, suffered a breakdown in health, caused by heart disease. He received treatment at the Community hospital in Belmond various times, and on Monday morning had returned from this hospital following a week's stay for treatment.

His daughter, Mrs. Frank Retleff of Rowan, and his son Benjamin of Belmond had come to the home with him upon his dismissal from the hospital. About 6 o'clock that evening he complained of a severe pain in his chest and within a very short time, he collapsed and death came.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, nine brothers, one son, Daniel who died in February, 1940, and one daughter, Loretta (Mrs. Rudolph Nuehring), who died in Aug. 1947.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennie (Mrs. Frank Ratleff) of Rowan; Vera (Mrs. Charles Spaid) of Colo.; two sons, Virgil and Benjamin Nolte of Belmond; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.

Music was furnished at the funeral by the church male quartet composed of J. J. Cook, V. E. Harris, W. P. Butts and A. O. Hanson with Mrs. Matt Smith at the piano.
