Mrs. H. M. Newgard [Newgord] rites at Goodell

Goodell (Special): - Funeral services for Mrs. H. M. Newgard [Newgord], 63, were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 26, at 2 o'clock from the Evangelical United Brethren church at Goodell, with the Rev. Park E. Miller officiating. Music was furnished by the men's quartet composed of V. E. Harris, J. J. Cook, Rev. Donald Varce and Lester VerHelst; Mrs. Henry Brede and Mrs. Park E. Miller. Burial took place in the Amsterdam cemetery. Pallbearers were W. E. Burk of Belmond, Amos Hanson, Bill Butts, Harry Ruka, Harold Savogue and E. C. Kienenberger.

Alva Matson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Matson was born March 24, 1895 at Goodell, and passed away Saturday night, Nov. 22, 1958 at St. Mary's hospital at Rochester, Minn., where she has been a patient since July 1, suffering with a lingering illness.

She received her education in the Goodell school, and also attended college at Dubuque and Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Harry M. Newgard of Belmond on February 21, 1927, and they continued to make their home with her father. To this union were born two children.

Mr. Newgard preceded her in death in 1938. Mrs. Newgard continued to make her home in Goodell until six years ago when she disposed of her home and moved to Rochester, Minn., where she and her daughter had an apartment.

Mrs. Newgard was an ever faithful member of the E.U.B. church in Goodell, taking active parts in the Sunday School work and the Ladies Aid Society. After moving to Rochester, she affiliated with the Congregational church there.

She leaves to mourn her going, two children, her daughter, Mildred Marie, who is laboratory technician at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, and one son, Noel, who is taking post graduate work at MacAlister College at St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, T. F. Matson of Clarion and one sister, Mrs. E. E. Stacy (Mildred) of Beloit, Wis.; and many other relatives and friends.
