Mary J. Savogue McNutt was born Nov. 21, 1849 in Wabash county, Indiana, and died Sept. 23, 1926, at 7 o'clock a.m. at the home of her son Francis W. McNutt, who resides here. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 76 years, 10 months and 5 days.

When Mrs. McNutt was a young child she moved from Indiana to Old Amsterdam which is better known today as the Old Town, one mile east of Goodell. The trip here was made in a covered wagon with her parents, so she had lived thru the pioneer days of toil, hardship and the happiness of those times.

Early in life she was married to Robert A. McNutt and to this union three children were born, Francis W. of Goodell, Mr. Mary E. Pine of Omaha, Neb., and Lee A. of Mason City, Ia., who died in 1919. Mr. McNutt passed away in 1911. The McNutt family lived here for many years and have won a host of friends. Grandma McNutt, as she was better known, has lived a happy, useful life and has been a wonderful mother, neighbor and friend. She was a member of the U. B. church and of the Ladies Aid society. Mrs. McNutt had been failing in health for the past few years, suffering with a severe case of asthma. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done, but the angel of death came and relieved her intense suffering.

Those left to mourn her departure are her two children, her brother, J. E. Savogue of Goodell, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the U. B. church with Rev. Charles VanMetre of Garner officiating, choosing as his text "The Lord is My Shepherd." Rev. VanMetre and Earl Clark of Garner sang three beautiful duets. The pallbearers, who are relatives of the deceased, were Earl Clark of Garner, Willis Knisley of Belmond, Sumner Trumbell of Klemme, Robert McNutt, Harold Savogue and Elmer Kienenberger of Goodell. Burial was in the family lot in Amsterdam cemetery.

Goodell friends extend deep felt sympathy to the relatives.
