Edgar VanCleve Mayhew

Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, at Tenold Funeral Chapel in Belmond for Edgar VanCleve Mayhew, 90, who died May 31, 1993 at the Belmond Community Hospital. Rev. Jerry Robertson officiated at the services. Burial was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.

Edgar VanCleve Mayhew, son of Stanford and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Mayhew was born July 8, 1902, at Hope IL.

In 1921, he came to Iowa and began working on farms in the area. He was united in marriage to Leona Sandry Jan 17, 1924, at the parsonage in Goodell. They worked west of Goodell for three years and moved to the farm of Leona's parents. The bought the farm where they live in 1943.

Preceding him in death are his parents, a great grandson, five sisters, and four brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Leona of Goodell; one daughter, Gladys (Mrs. Charles) Sprugel of Iowa Falls; one son, Edgar Jr. of Goodell; two granddaughters, Vicki Sprugel of Marshalltown, and Beth (Mrs. Brent) Hendricks of Grinnell; two great grandsons, Isaac and Zachary Hendricks; and many nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Harold Smith, Donald Sandry, Dennis Barkema, Don Suntken, LeRoy Carolus, Louie Seebeck, Clarence Sandry, and John Peterson.
