Services Held Here For Thomas Maitland
Deceased Had Poor Health for Four Years
A short service was held at the McIntire funeral home Monday at 12:30 for Thomas L. Maitland who died Friday, May 7, at his home near Rolfe. He had been in poor health for the last four years.
Further services were held in the United Brethren church at Goodell, Iowa, in charge of Rev. Kenneth Fogelman of Emmetsburg. A ladies' quartet sang "Beulah Land" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Fogelman sang "Glory Bye and Bye." Mrs. Christena Helford, Norma O'Bannon and Dorothy Maitland, granddaughters, were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were John Peterson, James Maitland, Doyle Levasy, Laurence Maitland, Burt Larsen, and Ralph Crooks, all grandsons. Interment was in the cemetery at Goodell.
Thomas Laurence Maitland was born October 3, 1865, at Colbourne, Ontario, Canada, and passed away at his home near Rolfe May 7, 1948, at the age of 82 years, six months and seven days.
When he was two years old the family came to the States and settled near Sycamore, Ill.
On June 13, 1886, he was united in marriage to Emma Braga at Sycamore, Ill. To this union nine children were born, five of whom preceded him in death. Besides his wife he is survived by four children, Mrs. Adah O'Bannon, Mrs. Laura Crooks of Storm Lake; Mrs. Emma Gehrt of Bradgate, and Thomas L. Maitland of Rolfe; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Beardsley of Sycamore, Ill., and one brother of Genoa, Ill.
He was affiliated with the Assembly of God church and was a loving husband and faithful father.
He resided at Rolfe the past two years, coming from Nashua. Mr. and Mrs. Maitland celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at City Park in
