Mrs. Charles Luick rites are Saturday
Clear Lake - Mrs. Charles (Mable) Luick, 80, 508 1st Ave. N., died Tuesday afternoon in a Clear Lake nursing home where she had been cared for several weeks.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ward-VanSlyke Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Ahrens, pastor of the St. Paul American Lutheran Church, Thornton, officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Cemetery at Goodell. Visitation is to be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mable Omega (Brooks) Luick was born April 11, 1889, at Goodell, the daughter of James and Elwy Brooks. She attended schools in the Goodell area and was married June 19, 1908, to Charles Luick at Belmond.
They farmed near Belmond until 1912, when they moved to a farm south of Clear Lake. In 1921, they returned to farming in the Klemme-Belmond area, moving back to Clear Lake in 1925. Mrs. Luick worked in several Mason City retail stores until 1936, when she was graduated from the school of cosmetology at Waterloo. She then opened and operated, for years, the Beauty Nook, where the Boyle & Schuler office is now located and later in the location of the present Ward Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965. Following an illness in 1967, Mrs. Luick lived with her son, Lee Luick, and family in Nora Springs until entering the nursing home in February.
She is survived by her son, Lee, Nora Springs; three grandchildren, Gary and Merle Luick, Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Humburg, Thornton, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Luick was a member of the United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors, Clear Lake, and was a past noble grand of Tina Rebekah Lodge.
