Mrs. Thomas O. Letch
Ernestine Christian was born in Putman county, Missouri, the youngest child of Edley J. and Kizziah Pullin Christian, on January 4, 1875.
She grew to womanhood there and was married to Thomas O. Letch at Unionville, Mo., on Aug. 5, 1896. To their union two children came to bless the home, Finis and Faye.
During her lifetime Mrs. Letch made her home at Unionville, Mo., Newton and Montour. Finis purchased the Goodell Globe paper in 1917 and at that time the family moved to Goodell. Finis purchased a paper in Mora, Minn., and in 1925, Mr. and Mrs. Letch moved to Mora, where Tom had a shoe and harness shop. They resided in Mora until Mr. Letch's death October 28, 1930.
The past five years, Mrs. Letch has divided her time with her children, spending the winters with Finis in Osceola, Wis., and the summers with her daughter, Mrs. Tony Boller in Goodell. Mrs. Letch did not enjoy good health, and for many years was a patient sufferer. She had the best of medical skill and underwent many major operations in the search of health.
During the years she lived in Goodell she won everyone for friend, Altho she always had pain, she had a wonderful sunny disposition. She was a good wife, loving mother, a neighbor to all and a real Christian character.
She was a life long member of the Christian church, coming into the Goodell U. B. church in Christ, October 7, 1920 and held her membership here until passing to her Lord.
Mrs. Letch had spent the summer here and Wednesday of last week she felt unusually well and helped along with the work in the Boller home. About 2 p.m. she decided to go out and sit in the sun and do mending. Shortly after, Mrs. Boller noticed her on her hands and knees and ran over to her, she asked her if she was ill and dizzy and she answered, "Yes," and seemed to go unconscious. Mrs. Carl Robbins and Mrs. Boller carried her into the house and medical aid was summoned at once. She never gained consciousness and quietly went to her God at 7 p.m. that evening. She had been suffering with high blood pressure and death was caused from a cerebral hemorrhage.
She leave to mourn her going, her son, Finis, Daughter, Mrs. Tony Boller; three brothers, W. T. Christian, Lucerne, Mo., E. T. Christian, Centerville, S. T. Christian, Green City, Mo.; two sisters; Mrs. Dora Crawford, Lemons, Mo., and Mrs. E. B. Dement, Ventura, Calif. A brother preceded her in death . Also she is survived by five grandchildren, Mary Boller, Goodell; Jean, Tom, Dorothy and John Letch of Osceola, Wis.
She departed this life September 4, 1935 at the age of 60 years and 8 months. Funeral services were held at the Tony Boller home, Saturday at 2 p.m. and at the U. B. church at 2:30 with Rev. H. L. Herlein officiating. His text was, "Be Still and Know I Am God." The male quartet, Messers Graeber, Cook, Kissenger and Rev. Herleith sang three favorite songs of the deceased. Pallbearers were, Messers Henry Christian, Gus O'Kreug, Will Bier, Lew Avery, Len Wilson and A. M. Graeber.
The Eastern Star Lodge of Belmond of which she joined many years ago had charge of the services at the grave. Flowers were many and beautiful and showed the esteem in which Mrs. Letch was held by those who knew her. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Amsterdam cemetery. Mrs. Letch has gone where there is no suffering and her beautiful Christian life will live with us.
The community extends sincere and heartfelt sympathy to her children and other relatives.
Out of town folks to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Finis Letch of Osceola, Wis,; Mrs. Crawford of Lemons, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Christians, son and daughter of Green City, Mo., and many friends from nearby towns.
