January 23, 1922 - November 28, 2011

Margaret Larson, 89, of Britt, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011, at Westview Center in Britt.

Funeral services for Margaret Larson will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with Pastor Mark Stevens officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Margaret Janette (Indvik) Larson was born January 23, 1922, on the family farm west of Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Groath) Indvik. Margaret’s father died when she was seven years old.

She began her early education in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and continued in the rural schools of Linden Township, attended Forest City High School, and graduated from Thompson High School in 1940. After graduation, she was employed at the Palace of Sweets in Forest City. During World War II she went to Burbank, California, where she was employed with Vega Aircraft making parts for the B-17 airplane. Following the war, she was an operator for the Central Iowa Telephone Company in Forest City, Iowa.

On February 14, 1948, Margaret was united in marriage to Leo A. Larson at the family farm northwest of Britt. She was a homemaker and partner in the farming operation. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Margaret will be remembered for her cooking and baking abilities, including her famous macaroni and cheese and Norwegian kringla.

She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Women’s Missionary Society, Britt Women’s Club, and often hosted the neighborhood Bible study.

Margaret is survived by her two daughters: Janell Salcedo of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Janice Turner of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren: Natalee Thompson of Greenville, South Carolina; Brandon Salcedo of Plymouth, Minnesota; Jennifer (Tony) Utley of New Hampton, Iowa; and Kevin (Jillian) Turner of Huntsville, Alabama; seven great-grandchildren; sister Anna Mae Orvick of Britt; sisters-in-law Betty Indvik of Forest City and Grace Larson of Kanawha; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, on December 31, 2000; her parents; two brothers, Loren Indvik and Oscar Indvik, Jr.
