Last Rites For Elizabeth Kilgore

Funeral services for Elizabeth Kilgore were held Thursday, June 9 in the United Methodist Church, Klemme. Mrs. Kilgore passed away June 7 in Belmond.

Rev. Donald Campbell officiated the 1:30 p.m. services. Organist was Mrs. Robert Schulz. Mrs. Roy Arnold and Mrs. Russell Thorson were singers.

Casket bearers were Graydon Back, Walter Boller, Orville Bridges, Carl Green, Ernest Kurtz and Marvin Lemke.

Burial was in the Ell Township cemetery.

Elizabeth Kilgore was born May 16, 1883, in Rydaholm, Sweden, the daughter of Gustaf Johannisson and Stina Kajsa Isrelsdotter Hollberg.

She was married to Clay Kilgore in Moline, Illinois in 1911. The couple farmed in Union County, Iowa until 1923.

After her husband's death in 1965, she moved to Prairie View in Garner then later to the Belmond nursing home.

She was a member of the Klemme Grandmother's Club.

Mrs. Kilgore was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Clair Kilgore, Northbrook, Illinois, and Lyndon (Pete) Kilgore of Klemme, two daughters, Aline Burgess, Goodell and Mrs. Ellen Lucille Smith of Lakeview, Oregon, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 9, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme for Elizabeth H. Kilgore, 94, who passed away on June 7 at Belmond Nursing Home. Rev. Donald Campbell officiated; burial was in Klemme Cemetery. Andrew-Quesenberry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth was born May 16, 1883, in Rydaholm, Sweden, to Gustaf Johannisson and Stina Kajsa Isrealdotter Hollberg. She was married to Clay C. Kilgore in Moline, Ill., in 1911.

She was a housewife who also helped her husband at farming in Union County, Iowa, until 1923 and then as an elevator manager in Shannon City, Goodell and Klemme. After his death in 1965 she moved to Prairie View in Garner and later to Belmond Nursing Home.

Everywhere they lived she belonged to many church groups and she loved to sing. She was also a member of the Klemme Grandmothers Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.

She is survived by two sons, Clair A. Kilgore of Northbrook, Ill., and Lyndon (Pete) Kilgore of Klemme; two daughters, Aline (Mrs. Joseph) Burgess of Goodell and Mrs. Ellen Lucille Smith of Lakeview, Ore., six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
