Services held for Clay C. Kilgore
Clay C. Kilgore, 81, of Klemme, died Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Belmond hospital, following several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 14,, at the Klemme Methodist Church, with the Rev. J. E. Albertson officiating.
Comfort in music was sung by Marlin Nielsen, soloist, and by Mrs. Roy Arnold and Mrs. Marvin Lemke, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Schulz. Everett Guth served as usher.
Burial was made in Ell Township Cemetery, with the Johnston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Marvin Lemke, Robert Hartzell, Graydon Back, Glen Bridges, Wilbur Haefner and Walter Boller.
Clay Clarence Kilgore was born May 4, 1884, on a farm near Lenox, one of three children born to Francis and Elizabeth Jane Coleman Kilgore. He grew up on the farm and attended rural schools. He was married to Marie Elizabeth Hollberg of Moline, Ill., on Feb. 1, 1911. They farmed near Creston, until 1921, when he became manager of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator at Shannon City, a position he held until 1931, when the elevator burned down. Following this, he managed elevators at Goodell for three years and Klemme for ten years.
He left Klemme in 1944 and worked for the Grain Dealers Association in Fort Dodge and Des Moines until 1951 when he retired and moved back to Klemme.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Clair A. of Northbrook, Ill., and Lyndon E. of Klemme; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Aline Marie) Burgess of Klemme and Mrs. M. B. (Ellen Lucille) Smith of Lakeview, Oregon. Six grandchildren, one great grandchild, two nieces and one nephew also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
