Goodell - The O. Sandberg family received a telephone message Wednesday telling them that their friend, Mrs. H. D. Kepner of East Moline, Ill., died that morning at five o'clock following a long illness of which the past five months were spent in the hospital, where death relieved her of her suffering.
Belle Poland, age 85, was born July 29, 1864 at Lime Springs, and died November 23, 1949. In her early life she made her home at Spirit Lake and Emmetsburg.
She was united in marriage to Howard D. Kepner, and two sons were born to this union. They moved from Emmetsburg to Goodell in 1901 when Mr. Kepner became station agent at the Rock Island depot. They lived here for 17 years. When Mr. Kepner's health failed him, in 1918, they then moved to Illinois.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Roland, who died in 1907, and her husband who died in 1922, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are her son's family, Mr. and Mrs. P. Kepner and Howard Jr., of East Moline, Ill., with whom she made her home; a niece, Mrs. Ronald Booth of Cedar Rapids, other distant relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held 7:30 Friday evening, from the Funeral Chapel at East Moline, Ill., and the remains were brought overland on Saturday, accompanied by her sons family.
Graveside services were held at Amsterdam cemetery, Goodell, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. James T. Stewart, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church, officiating. Burial took place in the family lot. Pallbearers were Warner and Bill Butts, Robert McNutt and Amos Hanson.
Those who attended the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Sandberg, Clear Lake; David Finn, Mrs. James T. Barry and Earl Jenison of Belmond.
