Josiah Fuller
Josiah Fuller departed this life at his late residence about 5 miles northeast of Goodell, Wednesday, January 22, 1902, after an illness of several months of creeping paralysis.
He was born in Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., New York, March 29th 1838, hence was 63 years, 9 months and 24 days old.
He was married to Miss Susan E. Gillman in February 1863 and in October of the same year came to Amsterdam, Hancock Co., Iowa, where he resided until deceased.
The subject of this memorial sketch was the father of twelve children, nine of whom survive him and who were all present at his funeral.
Deceased was a man of many good qualities and a generous and obliging neighbor. He was an energetic and hard working man and by diligent labor had succeeded in acquiring considerable property.
He was one of the early settlers of this part of the county and as such had to endure the hardships and privations of the early pioneers.
The funeral took place at the United Brethren Church, Saturday, January 25 at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Hartsough. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery, east of town, near the side of his companion who departed this life 12 years ago, to await the resurrection in the last day.
About the last words that he said before the end came "My conscience is clear." and as such we leave him in the hands of the Judge of all the Earth, who, we are assured doeth all things well.
