Mrs. John Friedow
Anna Schupper was born in Germany Dec. 16, 1833, and passed out of this life in the early hours of Saturday morning, Feb. 10th, at the advanced age of 89 years, 1 month and 24 days. She grew to womanhood in the land of her birth and received her early education in the schools and church of the Lutheran Faith.
She was united in marriage to John Friedow, to which union four children, two sons and two daughters were born. The family came to America in the year 1883, residing for some years near Sterling, Ill., and later coming to Hancock Co., living for many years on a farm some 8 miles northwest of Klemme. Some 19 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Friedow bought a home in Klemme, where shortly after taking possession, the husband died.
Mother Friedow, by which name she was best known, was blessed with a strong robust constitution. She was a very ambitious woman, ever looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand. In the services of the church, she was faithful unto the end. Her pew was never found empty without a good reason. At the place of the Mid-week prayer meetings, she was invariably the first person present, and always took some active part. This can also be said of her in regard to her interest and loyalty to the work of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of which she was an active member for many years.
Because of her true devoted life, her cheerful, pleasing disposition, she was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be missed in our homes and the church. May the memory of her cheering words, her zeal and her loyalty to God and His Church, long linger in the minds of her many relatives and friends.
There are left to mourn her departure, her four children: Mrs. Mary Baumeister of Klemme, with whom the deceased spent her last years; Mrs. Anna Kaiser of Belvidere, Ill.; William and Martin, who reside near Britt; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous friends.
Funeral services took place Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the church, W. C. Bergman, the pastor officiating.
