Goodell Mourns Death Of John M. Dominy
John Miller Dominy was born in Freedom Twp., LaSalle county, Ill., June 28, 1870. He moved to Iowa in 1902 where he and his parents lived on the Church farm one-forth mile west of Goodell.
He was married June 10, 1916 to Mary Costello of Goodell. His parents passed away shortly after moving to his present home. For several weeks he had not been in good health and had spent some time in a hospital at Hampton. He returned from the hospital about two weeks ago, apparently improved in health. On Wednesday, June 24, he went to Hampton for consultation, when his physician was pleased with the progress he was making. He passed away early Thursday morning. The family, friends and neighbors were shocked at this sudden passing away as they did not realize that his condition was so serious. In the passing of John Dominy, the entire community mourns the loss of a man of fine character, a loyal citizen and a man of real kindness and generosity.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife, nephew and niece, Howard and Josephine Dominy, who have made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Dominy the past 12 years, they being left orphans by the death of their parents. Three sisters, Cora J. Rea of Plattsburg, New York, Jessie M. Parr of Plano, Ill., and Rose A. Woods of Estherville, also two brothers, Harry S. of Estherville and Francis of Goodell. His brother, Wm. S. of Windsor, Mo., preceded him January 28, 1922.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dominy home with Rev. Leinbach officiating. Messrs. Harry Newgard, Matt Smith, Mrs. Okreug and Mrs. Carpenter composed the quartet and sang two beautiful songs. Burial was made in the family lot in the Amsterdam cemetery. Messrs O. F. Conwell, O. Sandberg, Harm Rust, Chris Deiger, Will Rhodes and Tom Burgess were pallbearers.
The esteem in which the Dominy's are held in this community was shown by the large circle of friends who came to pay tribute and sympathize with them. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family and other relatives.
Those from out of town to attend the funeral were Mrs. Jessie Parr from Plano, Ill., aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bultman and daughter, Vetelene from Ottawa, Ill., Mabel Dominy of Harding Ill., and Marion Dominy of Aurora, Ill., sister of Howard and Josephine. Russell Brignan from Baker, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Dominy and family, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Woods and two children of Estherville, Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith of Forest City, John and James Jordan of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Charles McFadden and Mrs. J. C. McGuire of Mason City, the four latter being cousins of Mrs. Dominy, Mr. Robert Clark of Charles City, Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes of Garner, Mrs. Leo Bleich of Wesley, Justin Lowenberg and family of Thornton.
