Funeral Rites
William Byers

Services Held Friday; Former Garner Resident

Funeral services were held at the St. Boniface Catholic church Friday, May 28, 9 a.m. for William Edward Byers, former Garner resident, with the Rev. Fr. M. J. Manternach in charge of the services. Mr. Byers died Tuesday, May 25, at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 14 days. Death came at a hospital in Mason City following a three week illness.

Pallbearers were Earl Terwilliger, Peter Engstler, Louis Schleusner, George Knoll, Albert Yegge, and James Rokus. Comfort in music was furnished by the church choir.

Mr. Byers was born September 11, 1883, in Garner, he was the son of John and Rose Byers. He lived in the Garner community until he was about 20 and then attended school in Des Moines for a time.

After completion of his schooling he began work for the Milwaukee railroad company, and for the past 20 years he served as station agent at Franksville, Wis. His health failing about a year ago, he suffered from a heart condition, and he came to Garner and lived with his brother, Joseph and sister, Mrs. Louis Klesel. Mr. Byers never married.

Surviving are his brother, Joseph of Garner and John of Seattle, Wash., and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Hagen of Nome, Alaska and Mrs. Louise Klesel of Garner.

Interment was made in St. Boniface Catholic cemetery near Garner.
