Dr. J. A. Young, Garner, Dies

Funeral Services of Veterinarian From Hancock Wednesday

Garner - Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Garner for Dr. J. A. Young, 81, Hancock county veterinarian for more than a half century. He died at his home following a stroke seven months ago which had confined him to his bed much of the time since.

The services are to be held at 2:30 o'clock from the Presbyterian church with the Rev. H. M. Hall in charge. Burial will be in Concord cemetery at Garner.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. L. K. Callanan, Los Angeles, Cal.; five sons, Willis, Sauk Rapids, Minn.; Homer, Algona; Clarence, Mason City; Harry, Big Lake, Minn., and Charles, Garner; a brother, F. S. Young, Clear Lake; a sister, Mrs. Addie Stanfield, Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Young preceded him in death in 1939.

Doctor Young was born at Shannon, Ill., in 1860 and came to Clear Lake from Illinois. He farmed five years at Clear Lake before moving to Garner in 1887 and farmed there for three years before devoting his time exclusively to veterinary medicine.
