Freshman in Corwith High School Dies in Mason City Hospital

Corwith - George Erdman Oxley, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Oxley, died at a Mason City hospital early Monday morning of complications due to heart and lung diseases.

The boy, a freshman in the Corwith high school, had been ill since Thursday. He was a member of the Methodist church and its Sunday school.

He is survived by his parents, a sister, Harriet, who is a student at Frances Shimer college at Mount Carroll, Ill., and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Erdman, southeast of Corwith.

Conduct Rites Of Corwith Boy

Funeral Services of George E. Oxley, 13, in Methodist Church

Corwith - Funeral services for George Erdman Oxley, 13, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, the Rev. A. J. Barkley officiating. Burial was in the Corwith cemetery.

More than 500 persons attended the services, filling the church to overflowing. Members of the high school and faculty attended in a body and the freshman class, of which George was vice president, acted as escort.

Honorary pallbearers were Don Duane Gourley, Wayne Woodbury, Richard Erickson, Merle Punke, Robert Mitchell and Robert Welter. Other bearers were Dr. P. E. Walley, Fred Bush, W. O. Kirchgatter, Fay Scace, Rufus C. Welter and R. J. Clapsaddle of Clarion.

J. Worth Miller sang and a trio composed of Mrs. J. Worth Miller, Mrs. B. A. Ross and Miss Esther Smith sang with Miss Lucille Miller accompanist.

Corwith - Elizabeth Oxley, student at the Frances Shimer school at Mount Carrol, Ill., returned to school Thursday after coming to Corwith to attend funeral services for her cousin, George Oxley.
