Mrs. Peterson, Goodell, Dies of Heart Attack

Goodell - Funeral Services for Mrs. L. P. Peterson, 66, who died Thursday of a heart attack, will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at home and at 2 p.m. at the Goodell U.E.B. Church

The local pastor, Donald Varce, Britt, will officiate. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery with the Osman Funeral Home, Klemme, in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peterson was born Laura Christie, June 3, 1891. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Christie who lived on a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Goodell. She was educated in the local schools and taught in rural schools until her marriage June 30, 1912.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were married by the late Rev. G. H. Varce, father of the present pastor. They farmed in this vicinity until they moved into Goodell after retiring.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Peterson is survived by five daughters, Barbara, Goodell; Mrs. Rolland (Clara) Peterson, Hanlontown; Mrs. Leslie (Evelyn) Meres, Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Ernie (Elaine) Woiwood, Garner; Mrs. Fred (Lula) Bell, Klemme; four sons, Lauretz, Belmond; John, Goodell; Christie, Goodell; Norman, Corwith; 29 grandchildren and six sisters.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, two sisters and one brother.

Services Held for Mrs. L. P. Peterson

Goodell (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. L. P. Peterson, 66, were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from her home and at 2 o'clock from the Evangelical United Brethren church at Goodell with the pastor the Rev. Donald Varce officiating. Music was furnished by the mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Donald Varce, Mrs. Henry Brede, Bill Butts and Amos Hanson, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Paul Veldhouse.

Serving as pallbearers were her nephews, George Nolte of Adams, Minn.; Homer Blickenderfer, and Lawrence Christie of Charles City; Ben Nolte, Belmond; and Edward Peterson and John Burrs. Interment took place in the family lot at Amsterdam cemetery.

Laura Christie, daughter of the late Elizabeth and James Christie, was born on a farm north of Goodell, on June 3, 1891. She received her education in the Goodell school and after finishing, taught in the rural schools of the county.

She was united in marriage to L. P. Peterson on June 30, 1913, and they took up their new home on a farm near Goodell, and continued farming until their retirement when they purchased a home in town and have since made this their home. To this union were born twelve children.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson were married by the late Rev. G. H. Varce, father of the present pastor.

Mrs. Peterson was a great lover of flowers and the past summer her flower garden being very large was beautiful with bloom and admired by everyone.

Mrs. Peterson had not been too well, but had gone about with her work and visited with friends that afternoon. She suffered a heart attack as she sat down to read the paper Thursday afternoon, passing away suddenly about 3:30 o'clock, Nov 7.

She was preceded in death by three daughters, (Karna) Mrs. Russell Hull, Lorna June, and an infant; also her parents and three sisters, Mrs. John (Jennie) Schreckengast, Mrs. Julius (Minnie) Nolte, and Josephine and one brother, John.

Surviving to mourn her death are her husband, her children, Barbara and Christie at home; Lauretz at Belmond; Mrs. Roland (Clara) Peterson, Hanlontown; Mrs. Leslie (Evelyn) Meres, Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Ernie (Elaine) Woiwood, Garner; Mrs. Fred (Lula) Bell, Klemme; Norman, Corwith; and John, Goodell; 29 grandchildren; and her sisters, Mrs. George (Ella) Garberich, Wilmar, Minn.; Mrs. Arley (Agnes) Blickenderfer, Charles City; Mrs. Chas. (Lizzie) Peterson, Mrs. Henry (Veda) Nolte; Mrs. Martin (Clara) Burrs, and Ione Christie, Goodell, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Obituary

Laura Christie was born on a farm near Goodell, Iowa, June 3, 1891, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Christie. She was baptized in the Methodist faith. She attended Goodell public schools and following graduation taught in rural schools near Corwith, Goodell and Meservey, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Peter Peterson on June 30, 1912 by the late Rev. G. Harry Varce, father of the present minister, and to this union 12 children were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson lived on farms near Goodell until 12 years ago when they retired and moved to town.

Mrs. Peterson was always a person doing kind deeds for folks, was a good wife, mother, and neighbor and numbered her friends by acquaintances. They will remember her for her love and care of flowers which she gave away generously for many occasions.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterson celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 30th of this year with their children holding open house at their home.

She leaves to mourn her going, her husband, nine children: Barbara at home; Lauretz of Belmond; Mrs. Roland Peterson (Clara Mae), Mason City; Mrs. Leslie Mues (Evelyn), Austin, Minn.; John, Goodell; Mrs. Ernest Woiwood (Elaine), Garner; Christie also at home; Mrs. Frederick Bell (Lula), Klemme and Norman, Corwith. Also 29 grandchildren, 6 sisters and many nieces and nephews besides many friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by 3 daughters: Mrs. Russell Hull (Karna), Lorna June and an infant who passed away in 1916. Also her parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
