Philip W. Olson, 1946-2006

Philip W. Olson, 60, of Garner, died on Monday, October 23, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 11, at the United Methodist Church in Garner, with Rev. David Wagner officiating. Inurnment will be in the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Philip Wayne Olson, the son of Harvey and Asa "Ruth" (Ward) Olson, was born on June 21, 1946 at New Richmond, Wisconsin. He attended school at Richmond. Philip served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge he returned home to Wisconsin.

On December 4, 1976, he married Doreen M. Schaumberg at the Methodist Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. They lived in the Twin Cities for 20 years, Amery, Wisconsin for seven years, and in 2003 moved to Garner. Phil was employed as a handyman for many years. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, mowing lawn and hunting.

He was a lifetime member of the Garner VFW and American Legion. He also served in the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Philip is survived by his wife, Doreen of Garner; two sons, Christopher Todd of Garner and Philip Olson, Jr. of Clear Lake, Wisconsin; a grandson, Brandon Todd; sisters and brothers, Phyllis Erickson, Roger (Nancy) Olson, Kenneth (Mary) Olson, Barbara (Jim) Marfel, Rosalie Poach, Catherine (Ed) Jorgenson, Linda Gordon and Joy Kropi; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Olson; his mother-in-law, Mabel Schaumberg of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harvey, Jr.; brothers-in-law, William Erickson and Daniel Silbernagel; and his parents-in-law, Bud and Dolly Schaumberg.
