Services for Ellis "Ace" C. Swan, 78, Kanawha, who died Friday, Dec. 29, 1989 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1990, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Rev. Judy Kitterman Miller and Rev. Clyde Lee officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Louise Smith, who accompanied soloist, Charles McLaughlin. Ushers were Milton Friedow and Roger Hansen.

Casket bearers were Gilbert Guenther, Bill Schroeder, Ed Christians, Ben Wilkinson, Bill Dahl and Bob May.

Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt at a later date. Ewing Funeral Home in Britt was in charge of arrangements.

Ellis "Ace" C. Swan, the son of Walter and Viola B. Swan, was born March 5, 1911 at Morning Sun. He graduated from the Britt High School in 1932 and then attended Britt Junior College.

September 3, 1934, he married Lucille Ludeke at Morning Sun. Before entering the Merchant Marines during WW II he was employed at a bomber plant in Omaha, NE. He owned and operated The Coffee Shop for many years and the Dairy Sweet in Britt. For a period of time he was acting postmaster for the Britt Post Office. During the mid 1960's he managed Westview Care Center in Britt. He later managed two rehabilitation centers, one in Jordan, MN and the other in Canton, SD. In 1976, he retired and moved to Kanawha.

Ellis was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Britt, the Masonic Lodge and the Britt Lions. His hobbies included golf, bowling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Kanawha; one son, Michael and his wife, Elly Swan of Vernon, CT; one granddaughter, Sara Swan; one brother, Maurice Swan of Britt; and one sister, Evelyn and her husband, Walter Schubert of Mission, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon "Butch" and Kenneth; and an infant sister, Virginia.
