Deane Minerva Harringa was born February 17, 1920 in rural Woden, daughter of Alfred and Amelia (Holland) Swingen. Deane grew up in Woden where she graduated from high school. She then attended Waldorf College and Hamilton Business College and worked as a secretary for the Standard Oil Company in Mason City prior to her marriage.

On November 22, 1947 Deane was united in marriage to Dick Harringa in Fairmont, Minnesota. They farmed north of Titonka until November, 1976 when they moved into Titonka.

Deane was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka being active in the ELCA. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and doing all kinds of hand work. Deane enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, gardening, and was an avid reader till her eyesight failed.

Deane M. Harringa died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt at the age of 91. She had been a resident of the Titonka care for the past two years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick on September 28, 1989; two brothers, Vernon and Russell Swingen; and a nephew, Dennis Swingen.

She is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
