Darlene E. Hagen, 88, of Titonka, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

A private graveside inurnment will take place at Bingham Township Cemetery, rural Woden.

Darlene Hagen was born April 24, 1923 to George and Irene (Koppen) Higgins at their farm home at Titonka, Iowa. She graduated from Titonka Consolidated School in 1941 and then took a teachers training course at Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Darlene taught country school for 3 years, she purchased the Titonka Cafe and ran it for three years. She worked for the Titonka Telephone Company as an operator and bookkeeper for 10 years.

She married Wayne Hagen on December 12, 1947. They would spend most of their summers at Lost Island Resort by Ruthven, Iowa after Wayne lost his sight. She enjoyed camping, fishing, reading and crossword puzzles.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents, George and Irene Higgins; two brothers, Dale and Duane Higgins; two sisters-in-law, Doris and Toni Higgins; and a nephew, Daryl.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Arlis Higgins of Titonka; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
