1921-1991Services for Melvin D. Smith, 69, Britt, who died Friday, July 19, 1991 at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka, were held Monday, July 22, 2 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Ted Stowers officiating.
Music was provided by organist, Leann Buns, who accompanied the congregation. Ushers were Gilbert Guenther and Harry Smith.
Casket bearers were Leroy Stalzer, Lewis J. Fox, Don Hiscocks, Jon Hiscocks, Louie Sweers and Clive Wyke.
Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Melvin Dale Smith, the son of William and Mabel Fitzgerald Smith, was born October 26, 1921 at Britt. He received his education in the Britt School and graduated in 1940. He farmed until he entered the United States Air Force serving during World War II. After his discharge he returned to farming.
June 20, 1946, he married Marcella Terbeek. He farmed until 1970. He then was employed with Winnebago Industries until 1986.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, a life member of the V.F.W. Post #4370 and also a member of the Britt American Legion Post #315. He enjoyed his family, friends, farming and helping others.
He is survived by one son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Paula of Santee, CA; a daughter, Sandra Kay Lester and her husband, Kent of Ft. Collins, CO; a sister, Mavis Betten and her husband, John of Kanawha; three grandchildren; and a special friend, Adala Bailey of Britt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant child.
