Former Pastor in Estherville Dies; Rites Set
Dr. Fred W. Ortmeyer, 80, died Tuesday afternoon at Friendship Haven Health Center in Fort Dodge. He had been living at Friendship Haven since March.
Dr. Ortmeyer served the Estherville Methodist Church from 1933 to 1943 and, after his retirement at 72, served the Huntington Methodist Church.
Other pastorates were at Knierim, Forest City, Emmetsburg, Clarion, Spencer, and Charles City.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel on the Hill at Friendship Have. Dr. Clarence Thompkins, executive director of Friendship Haven, Dr. Roger Russell of Spencer, United Methodist district superintendent; and Rev. Willis McLaughlin, Freindship Haven chaplin, will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be in Ell Township cemetery at Klemme.
Dr. Ortmeyer is survived by his wife, Eleanor, a son, Homer F. Ortmeyer of San Francisco, and a daughter, Mrs. Richard Martin of Kensington, Md.; three grandchildren; three brothers, W. A. Ortmeyer of Armstrong; Edward C. of Charles City, and Henry of Livingston, Mont.
He was born and raised in Indiana and moved with his family to Charles City when he was 17 years old.
He attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon.
He was married in 1914 to Eleanor Griewe at Klemme. They lived in Fort Dodge for six months before he went into the ministry.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Estherville and was a past president of the Estherville Kiwanis Club.
The family requests that memorial be given to the Freindship Haven Health Center.

Services for Pastor Ortmeyer
Funeral services for Pastor Fred Ortmeyer were held at the Chapel at Friendship Haven Home Fort Dodge Friday with burial at Klemme. He has been pastor at the Huntington Methodist church for many years and was 80 years old. (names of former parishioners who attended services). (also more area residents attending services found on page 10).
