Services for Dorthy Monson, 67, Forest City, who died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Ardmore, OK. were held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2 p.m., at Winnebago Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Rev. Bill Peters officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Trese Lovik, who accompanied soloist, John Hermanson, and the congregational hymns.

Casket bearers were Kenneth Cole, Bill Yohn, Bob Diebler, Martin Koolach, Red Olson and Bill Gaines.

Burial was at the Ellington Township Cemetery, Forest City, with Peterson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dorthy J. Monson, the daughter of Frank and Lois (Brown) Hurst, was born October 4, 1929, in Webster City. She attended school in Webster City and graduated from Webster City High School. She began working in Des Moines.

In 1952, she married Milton Monson in Des Moines. The couple made their home in Forest City for most of their married lives.

Dorthy was a member of Winnebago Lutheran Church and active in Circle.

She liked to knit and do crafts. She enjoyed being around people and loved to visit. Her pet cats were well cared for and she enjoyed her yard and flowers. She and Milton traveled to Arlington, TX. to spend the winters. She was a dedicated bingo player.

Dorthy is survived by her husband, Milton Monson of Forest City; two sons, Kenny Monson of Garner and John M. Monson of Forest City; three daughters, Paula Book of Austin, MN. Darla Thorson of Joice and Sandy Higbee of Mason City: 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
