Norman Juhl

GARNER - Norman Juhl, 87, of Garner, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 16, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, with the Rev. Owen Gaasedelen officiating. Interment will be in Ellington Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Norman Juhl, the son of Christian and Christina (Schau) Juhl, was born July 31, 1912, on the family farm south of Miller. The family moved to Forest City, where Norman graduated from high school in 1932.

He farmed the Juhl family farm south of Miller for more than 47 years, moving to his home in Garner in 1980. On Aug. 21, 1942, he married Ruth Thora Schow at Macon, Mo. After his "retirement" in 1980, he continued to help his son, Mark, on the farm, as farming was his passion.

He also delivered Winnebago Motor Homes for eight years, enabling him to travel all over the United States, seeing the country and visiting his many relatives. For the past 18 years, he had driven a truck and helped at Schroeder's North Iowa Grain Equipment Company.

Norman thoroughly enjoyed his family, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, farming, church and his many friends.

He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Miller for more than 60 years, served on the school board of Miller for seven years and the Garner-Hayfield Community School board for 22 years. He was also a board member of the Federal Land Bank for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Juhl, of Garner; three children, Mary Ann Juhl, of Des Moines, Chris Juhl and his wife, Mary, of Garner and Mark Juhl and his wife, Carol, who live on the family farm north of Garner; seven grandchildren, Tom Juhl and his wife, Stephanie, Alison Juhl, Jeff Juhl, Molly Juhl, Melissa Juhl, Kevin Juhl and Alan Juhl.

His parents; three sisters, Susie Douglas, Anna White and May Hallett; and five brothers, Merle Juhl, Melvin Juhl, Clifford Juhl, Peter Juhl and Kenneth Juhl, preceded him in death.

Cataldo Funeral Chapel, (515) 923-2841.
