Services Held Wednesday For Chris Kyhl, 82
Funeral services were held for Chris Kyhl, Wednesday, August 3, 1:30 at the Osman Chapel, and 2 p.m. at the Upper Flat Church with the Rev. Percy Carlsson in charge. Interment was made in the family lot in Crystal Cemetery at Crystal Lake.
Christian Kyhl was born it Kolstrup, a small town close to Haderdlev in Denmark, on May 1, 1873, a son to Nis C. and Kathrina Jepsen Kyhl. At the age of 16 he came to America, arriving at Charlotte, Iowa, where an uncle helped him secure employment on a farm. There he worked for several years.
On February 14, 1902 Mr. Kyhl was married to Frederikka Hartvigsen, of Maquoketa, Iowa. They went to farming near Maquoketa and after one year moved to Dike, Iowa, where they farmed six years. Leaving there they moved to a farm seven miles north of Britt, better known as the Upper Flat vicinity. This was the home of Mr. Kyhl until two years ago when he retired to a home in Britt.
Death came Sunday, July 31, at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He had reached the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 30 days. Mr. Kyhl in his more active years held a number of township offices. He was a man always ready to lend a helping hand willingly. Mr. Kyhl obtained his U. S. Citizenship papers in 1891.
Surviving are four children: Mrs. Arthur (Freda) Katter, Garner; Emil Kyhl, Britt; Hartvig Kyhl, and Mrs. Wm. (Elina) Shirah, both of Billings, Montana. There are twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Kyhl, the last member of his family, was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 22, 1943; a daughter, Alma, in infancy; two sisters and one brother.
