Wm. Strate, 89, Pioneer, Dies
Hancock, Floyd Farmer, Will Be Buried FridayGarner - William Strate, 89, pioneer resident of Garner and vicinity, died at his home in Garner Wednesday afternoon.
He was born in Freeport, Ill. Dec. 4, 1853. He was married to Caroline Heitz, Dec. 27, 1876 at Pearl City, Ill.
The family came to Floyd county in 1883 where he bought an improved 200 acre farm on which the family lived 20 years.
In 1903 he came to Hancock County and bought what is now known as the Clint Daniels farm three miles east of Garner.
In 1911 he retired and moved to Garner. His wife died July 10, 1930. A son, George, of Gordonsville, Minn., also preceded him.
Surviving are three sons, Charles of Rockford and John and Roy of Garner, also two grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grand-daughter.
He was a staunch member of the Methodist church. Services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. E. F. Broberg, pastor in charge.
The pallbearers will be three sons and three nephews. Burial will be in Concord township cemetery.
