Mrs. John Strate succumbs to long illness
Garner - Funeral services for Mrs. John Strate, 79, will be held at the First Methodist Church in Garner at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Trevor Baskerville will be in charge of the service. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Tuesday to the time of the service. Bohn Funeral Home is in charge. Interment will be in the Concord Township Cemetery at Garner. Mrs. Strate died at her home here Saturday afternoon following a lingering illness.
Evelyn E, Melcher, daughter of Louis and Caroline Melcher, was born Aug 7, 1880, in Floyd County. Feb. 22, 1905, she was married to John H. Strate. After farming in local communities for four years the couple, with the George Strates, moved to Idaho where they pioneered. While living in Idaho their only son, William Milton, was born. He died at the age of 13 months.
Mrs. Strate was active in church and Sunday school work and helped to pioneer this missionary endeavor in Idaho. She served as Sunday school superintendent of Rural Union Sunday school. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Garden Club.
Surviving are her husband; a sister, Mrs. H. J. Birkholz, many nieces and nephews.
