Garner Girl Fatally Injured in Automobile Crash
Driver Fails to See When Snow Reflects Light
Miss Schipull, 18, Dies; Erling Brunsvold Hurt as Cars SmashMiss Helen Schipull, 18, Garner, received fatal injuries and Erling Brunsvold, Hanlontown, was injured when the car in which they were riding crashed into the side of a bridge, was turned crossways on the road and then hit by another car at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday night on a road near Hanlontown. Both were rushed to a local hospital, but Miss Schipull died soon afterward.
The accident occurred at a bridge on Highway No. 9 one mile west of Hanlontown. Because of the falling snow and the reflection of lights from the other car, driven by Donald Miller, 16 year old son of the Rev. and Mrs. James Miller of the U. B. church at Hanlontown, Mr. Brunsvold was unable to see the road.
Car Turned Sideways
When Mr. Brunsvold, who is about 25 years of age and the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Brunsvold, who reside three miles northwest of Hanlontown turned to one side to permit the other car to pass, his car struck the concrete railing of the bridge.
This turned the car sideways and the oncoming car smashed into it. Both cars were demolished.
William Crawford, farmer, found Miss Schipull and Mr. Brunsvold and rushed them to a hospital here. Miss Schipull and Mr. Brunsvold had been at a skating ring at Hanlontown and were on their way home when the accident occurred.
Received Many Injuries
Miss Schipull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Schipull, suffered a broken back, a fractured skull, and a broken left arm. She was unconscious and was suffering from shock after the accident.
Mr. Brunsvold received a cut above his eye, his right hand was seriously cut, and his elbow was injured. His condition however, is not considered critical by the attending physician. He is confined in Park hospital with injuries.
