Otto Kloock buttermaker, dies at 70

Garner - Otto J. Kloock, 70, buttermaker and manager of the Farmer Coop Creamery here for 29 years before retiring in 1961, died Saturday morning at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bohn Funeral Home.

Kloock had been active in the creamery business in North Iowa for more than 50 years. Although retired, he still was secretary of the Iowa Creamery Operators Assn. He also was former president of that association.

One of the founders of State Brand Creameries, Inc., Mason City, Kloock started to work at the Garner creamery in 1913. He also managed the Tenold and Whittemore creameries before becoming manager of the Garner creamery in 1932.

He had been honored for his butter-making ability on numerous occasions.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Dean, Brooklyn; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Delores) Shannon, Orange, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. George Bartlett, Mason City.

Otto Kloock

Garner - Funeral services for Otto J. Kloock, 70, veteran Garner buttermaker, will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garner at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. to the time of the service. Interment will be in the Concord Township Cemetery with the Bohn Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Kloock died suddenly at his home here Saturday morning.

Otto John Kloock, son of Carl and Louise Walker [ Wacker ] Kloock, was born at Garner on Sept, 13, 1893. Oct. 20, 1916, he was married to Carolyn Abel. He operated creameries at Tenold, Whittemore and Garner, and was secretary of the Iowa Creamery Operators.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Delores) Shannon, Orange, Calif,; a son, Dean, Brooklyn; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
