Former Britt Editor, R. R. Roberts, Dies

Britt - Ray R. Roberts, 73, former editor and publisher of the Britt News-Tribune, died at his home in Cookville, Tenn., Monday night.

Born Jan. 13, 1885, at Irving, Iowa, he was the son of Jesse O. and Laura Loutzenheiser Roberts. He was married July 14, 1909, to Marjory Earhart, at Osage.

Following His Marriage he was an assistant cashier in the Farmers National Bank, Osage, until 1914, when he became a partner with his brother, Lewis G. Roberts, in the Britt newspaper. From 1917 to 1919 he was the editor of the Scribner Rustler, Scribner, Neb. He returned to Britt in 1919 and edited and published the News-Tribune until his retirement in 1954.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Marian) Judd, Murfreesboro, Tenn., two granddaughters, Marilyn and Linda Judd; two brothers, Lewis G., Britt, and Mark, Osage; and a sister, Mrs. F. J. (Edith) Craig, Hartwick.

A Member Of the Congregational Church here, he had served many years on its board. He was a member of the Masonic Darius Lodge 431, Britt; a member of the Britt school board nine years and also belonged to the Iowa Press Assn. and the National Editorial Assn. He was a past secretary of the Britt Commercial Club.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, preceded by a prayer service at the Boughton Funeral Home. The Rev. W. R. Thomas will officiate. Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside in Evergreen Cemetery.

Preceding him in death were several brothers and sisters.
