Conrad Ouandt dies
service on FridayDeath came to Conrad Quandt on Tuesday, Sept. 12th, 1972, at his home.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 15th, from the United Methodist church, Klemme, with the Rev. Donald Campbell officiating. Hymns used were; "Sweet Hour of Prayer," and, "Blessed Be the Tie that Binds." The organist was Mrs. Robert Schulz. The pallbearers were; Louis Eenhuis, Henry Kaduce, Gordon Sawtelle, Delwyn Stromer, Herb Pearson, Craig Larson; and he was laid to rest in the Klemme cemetery. The Willim-Andrew Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Quandt was born on Mar. 21, 1886, in Granville, Illinois, was the son of John and Helen (Weber) Quandt. As an infant he came with his family to Belmond where he was raised and educated. As a young man before coming to Klemme, he worked for the A. J. Klemme Lumber Co. in Belmond.
On August 24, 1912, he was united in marriage to Grace Blank in Garner, Ia. On August 24, 1972, they had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Quandt came to Klemme where they owned and operated a business until 1949, when they retired. He was a widely known business man in the area. His business was his life and he was dedicated to the people of the community, especially the young people. Mr. Quandt tried to stay active in community affairs. Because of health, Mr. and Mrs. Quandt had spent the last 32 summers in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
Mr. Quandt was a 50 year member of the Odd Fellows and had served on both the Klemme school board and the Klemme town council.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; one daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Gracka) Gerardi of Klemme, two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rudy Quandt of Iowa Falls.
Mr. Quandt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
