NELS PETER RASMUSSEN
1853 - 1946

Crystal Lake, Jan. 7:—Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for N. P. Rasmussen, 92 years old. The funeral was held at one o'clock from the Rasmussen home and at 1:30 from the Methodist church with Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas in charge.

Nels Peter Rasmussen was born in Lolland, Denmark, July 1, 1853, and passed away at the hospital in Forest City, January 1, 1946, after an illness of about seven weeks. His age at the time of his death was 92 years and 6 months.

He received his education in Denmark and was confirmed in the Lutheran church there. He was united in marriage to Ann Madsen, December 19, 1875, and in the year of 1880 they left their native country and came to America to start as pioneers of this country.

Many were their hardships and sorrow came into their home many times. Of the eight children born to them, six of them have passed on. Namely,
Sophie, Anton, Martin, Mary, Paul, and James, who died in France during World War I. Mrs. Rasmussen died June 20, 1913. Two sons, Albert and Henry, survive and live near Crystal Lake; Henry living on the old home place. There are thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Edward Rasmussen, of Mason City, adopted son of Martin Rasmussen, always called the deceased his grandpa too. Even though Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen had a large family of their own they always managed, back in the olden days, to open their home to any relative or friend needing a place to stay.

Mr. Rasmussen also leaves many nephews and nieces, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Until the last year he was very active for a man of his age. Not only taking care of himself, but for many years caring for an ailing daughter, also besides acting as housekeeper on the farm. He was a fine citizen, a friendly and helpful neighbor, of all he came in contact with, they gave him the testimony - he was a good man. Many flowers and gifts to missions were given in memory of Mr. Rasmussen.

Burial was made at the cemetery in Britt.
