Retired area farmer died Sunday
Retired Forest City area farmer, Steve Tschirki, 82, died Sunday [9 Mar 1980] at the Forest City community hospital, following an illness.
Steve Tschirki, the son of Julius and Theresa Gelner Tschirki, was born Jan. 16, 1898, in Hancock county. When he was a child, he moved with his parents to Winnebago county where he attended school. As a young man, he worked as a farm laborer. Tschirki married Laura Helgeson on Feb. 27, 1922, at Immanuel Lutheran church in Forest City.
The couple established their first home on a farm in Hancock county and later lived on several different farms in Winnebago and Hancock counties. They retired in 1968 and moved to Forest City. Mrs. Tschirki died on Oct. 3, 1970. In 1972, Mr. Tschirki entered the Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include his daughter, Stella Kudej of Britt; two brothers, Chris Tschirki and Ray Tschirki of Forest City; and two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Vera) Berger of Forest City and Mrs. Lynn (Mabel) Volding of Crystal Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Lewis Tschirki, and a sister, Dora Henschen.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. John Hieronymus officiating.
Leonard Markusen was organist. Casket bearers were Carl Henschen, Norman Henschen, Arlyn Rauk, Carlyle Rauk, Clair Thompson and Stanley Thompson. Burial was in Madison township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home handling arrangements.
