Vance Rasmussen dies after long illness
Funeral services for Vance Victor Rasmussen, 62, who died Aug. 13 [1971] in Forest City hospital following a lingering illness, were Monday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church, Forest City. The Rev. Owen Gangstead officiated. Graveside military rites were conducted at Madison township cemetery by the Forest City American Legion.
Born Oct. 29, 1908 in Ellington township, son of Sam and Olena Christianson Rasmussen, he spent his entire lifetime in this community except for his time in the service. He was employed by the State Highway Commission for 30 years until illness forced retirement at the early age of 54. He was married to Mathilda Peterson in Galena, Ill., July 5, 1932. During World War II he served from 1942-45 in the Pacific theater.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Darlene) Oleson of Rogers, Ark.; two grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Anna) Nelson Mrs. Norman (Loretta) Nye and Mrs. Melvin (Ardis) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Martha Nelson was soloist for the service and Norma Boomgarden, organist. Casket bearers were Gerald Barth, Carroll Gullickson, Merle Jefson, Clarence Johnson, Albert Ohme and Mark Wilson. Olson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
