Services held for retired farmer

Funeral services for retired Forest City area farmer, Milo J. Pitkin, were held Monday morning at Calvary Baptist church. The Rev. Eldon Pals, pastor of First Baptist church in Monroe, officiated.

Richard Johnson and Dwight Winkleman sang a duet and Susan Pitkin and Alson Toavs also provided music. Mrs. Lawrence Pitkin was organist. Casket bearers were David Krieger, Stephen Pitkin, Daryl Krieger, Greg Johnson, Robb Johnson, Tim Abrams, Tim Nelson and Mike Rollefson. Burial was in Madison township cemetery with the Petersen funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Pitkin, 73, died Friday [8 May 1981] at his home. in Forest City. He had been in failing health for the last several years.

Milo J. Pitkin, the son of F. B. and Emma Lunstrum Pitkin, was born May 5, 1908, near Sawyer, N. Dak. He started school in North Dakota and came with his parents to Winnebago county when he was 12. Pitkin attended the Waldorf Academy in Forest City and married Lucille Bonar Dec. 15, 1930, at the Bonar family farm near Forest City.

The couple established their first home on a farm east of Forest City and in 1941 purchased their farm south of Forest City in Hancock county. In 1978 they moved to their present home in Forest City. Since 1970, the Pitkins have spent the winter in Harlingen, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Pitkin have been active members of Calvary Baptist church in Forest City for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; three children, Mrs. Dean (Beverly) Krieger and Mrs. Ralph (Sheryl) Johnson of Forest City and Milo Pitkin Jr. of Rockford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Olson of Forest City and Mrs. J. R. (Frances) Orelind of Wilmette, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
