Life long Klemme area resident, Leona Priebe, died on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City. She was 89.
Funeral services for Mrs. Priebe were held on Tuesday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m., at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ. Pastor Donna Buckman officiated. Organist, Lynette Nuehring provided music for congregational hymns.
Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. The Tenold Funeral Home of Klemme and Belmond was in charge of the arrangements.
Ushers were Raymond Helps, Luverne Schmidt and Marvin Schmidt. Casket bearers were Edward Gaffney, Steven Ames, Scott Jaberg, Mark Ames, Douglas Ames and Douglas Johnson. Honorary bearers were Randy Gaffney, Nancy Johnson, David Jaberg and Beth Jaberg.
Leona Priebe, was born on March 27, 1912 in Mason City, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Roths) Buseman. The family moved to Klemme when she was a small child. On May 27, 1931, she was united in marriage to Albert Priebe at the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church in Klemme. Mrs. Priebe led an active life that included careers in farming and real-estate brokerage, which she
shared with her late husband. She edited and published a homemakers magazine and often did "job printing" of cookbooks and church publications. She was a long time member of the Mason City Camera Club and for a time sold
"advertising specialty" items.She was honored for her community service by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in 1990 for her "outstanding volunteer services." She was a member of the Clear Lake Women's Club, North Iowa Women's Shrine Auxiliary, Klemme Grandmothers
Club, several garden clubs and the Dorcas Circle at the Klemme United Church of Christ.Survivors include three daughters, Luella (Jim) Bonner of Clear Lake, Lucille (John) Gaffney of Swaledale and Miriam (Eugene) Jaberg of Fridley, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Randy and Edward Gaffney, Mark, Steven, Douglas Ames, Nancy Johnson, Scott, Beth and David Jaberg; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Betty Buseman of Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; a sister, Esther Schlawin; two brothers, Francis and Franklyn Buseman; a grandson, David Ames; and a great-granddaughter, Amy Nieman.
