FUNERAL SERVICE

Garner, Iowa
10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 18, 2003

OFFICIATING
Pastor Robert Bronson

Laurine Mata August Rasmus, the daughter of Grover Oscar Lawrence and Dorethea Marie (Eske) Halverson, was born March 8, 1927 at St. Ansgar. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by Pastor Paul Brammer. She attended school at St. Ansgar and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class of 1945. After graduation she went on to receive her Lab and X-ray technician degree from the Minnesota Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Wayne Eldon Rasmus on March 25, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar by the Rev. H.C. Walters. For all 52 years of their married life they resided in Garner, where she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Laurine held several different jobs during her lifetime. She first worked as an x-ray and lab technician at the Forest City Municipal Hospital. She worked as a bookkeeper for Yohn Ready Mix in Garner. She was also employed by Drs. Clapsaddle, Dankel and Brownstone in Clear Lake. In her later years, she worked at the Second Hand Shop in Garner and also spent many hour baby-sitting for several area families. Laurine loved to knit and crochet and found great delight in sharing her afghans
and sweaters with family members. Her two dogs, Keisha and Mitsi, were her pride and joy. She was an avid Yankee fan who truly felt there wasn't a valid world series unless the Yankees were one of the teams playing. She also loved following her nephews' and nieces' athletic events. She was especially interested in following the St. Ansgar Saints, UNI Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks. Most game days you would find her glued to either the TV or radio, following every play that was made and taping as many as possible for playback later.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Garner; a sister, Dorothy Hegland of St. Ansgar; a brother-in-law, Warren Rasmus and his wife, Helen, of Garner; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Rasmus of Garner; several nieces and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Wilmer; and two brothers-in-law, J.W. (Bill) Hegland and Dean Rasmus.
