George R. Richards Jr. the son of G. R. and Clara (Oshel) Richards was born on August 22, 1923, at Belmond, Iowa.

He graduated from the Alexander High School and attended Iowa State University where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

He was united in marriage to Carol Kepler at Fairfield, Iowa on July 26, 1953.

George was a retired farmer, member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge, past Worshipful Master, and a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Order of Eastern Star, and past Worthy Patron, member,of Alexander Methodist Church, and past Chairman of Board and Treasurer, board member of CAL School from 1969 to 1983, serving as board president for 15 years, served as director and board member of the Iowa Association of School Boards from 1980 to 1983, served on the Task Force of Excellence in Education Study Committee in 1984, and as a board member of the First State Bank in Belmond.

George died on Wednesday, January 18, 1989, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Ia.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Carol, children, David George of Des Moines, Ia; Joan Louise of Riverside, Ia; and Edward Lee of San Francisco, Calif. One sister, Mrs. Howard (Marjorie) Schoenwetter of Bethesda, Maryland.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
