Obituary
JENNIE NELSON
Jennie Nelson, 68, of Klemme died Sunday evening at Valley View Village Retirement Home in
Des Moines, Iowa.Mrs. Nelson was born July 5, 1904 near Meservey. She was the daughter of Henry and Jennie
(Roll) Meinderts. Mrs. Nelson was raised and educated in the Meservey area schools. After
finishing her education, Mrs. Nelson operated the local telephone office in Meservey until
her marriage.On February 25, 1925 she was united in marriage to Verner Nelson in her parent's home.
After their marriage they farmed in the Klemme community until Mr. Nelsons death in 1961.
She then moved into her home in Klemme and worked in the hot lunch program in the Klemme
Public Schools from 1961-1963. In 1972 she moved to Valley View Village to be near her
daughter. She had been in failing health for the past two, years.Mrs. Nelson was Confirmed in the Reformed Church in Meservey on May 14, 1922. She later
became a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme where she was active in the Church
Womens Society, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had been active in the Women's
Home Extension Service and was a member of Klemme's Grandmothers Club.Surviving Mrs. Nelson are two daughters: Mrs. Robert (Erdene) Halferty of Des Moines and
Ardella Nelson of Madison, Wisconsin; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Bert (Anne)
Lauen and Mrs. Henrietta Wilkins of Belmond and Mrs. Martha Bachman of Ventura.Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
