Obituary
EMIL H. PATET, age 78, a resident of Hancock County for 67 years, died at his home in Klemme
early Sunday morning, September 21, 1952.He was born on October 9, 1873 at Iwitz, Germany.
In 1885, his parents August and Amalia Lau Patet, together with Emil, age 12, and his three
sisters migrated to, America and located in Garner, Iowa.Emil had attended school in Germany, but on coming to America he attended the Garner Public
Schools and completed his common school education. Later he attended the Worden - Polock
Normal Academy. He farmed several years northeast of Hayfield.For 25 years he was janitor at various schools, namely, Crystal Lake, Hayfield and Klemme.
For several years he served as janitor of the Klemme Methodist Church and was sexton of the
Klemme Cemetery. He also worked in the Wellemeyer Store for six years.He got along well with people, especially children, which helped to make his school work
successful.He was a member of the Methodist Church all his life, played the church organ at Hayfield,
played the bass horn in the Hayfield school band., always sang in the church choir and,
helped sing at more than 400 funerals. He had a rich and powerful bass voice.On September 9, 1925, Emil H. Patet and Emma Sampson were married. They made their home in
Klemme throughout the 2'7 years of their married life.Mr. and Mrs. Patet retired 10 years ago. Since then he spent considerable time in his garden
and with his flowers. They often spent their winters in California or Florida.Mr. Patet became ill 5 weeks ago, spent two weeks in a hospital where he received only
temporary relief, came home and several days later left us, having reached the age of 78
years, 14 months and 12 days.He leaves of his immediate family: His wife, Emma
