Fred Lassahn of Crystal Lake Passes Away

Services for Fred C. Lassahn, 64, widely known Britt-Crystal Lake area farmer, were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church. A prayer for the immediate family was said at the Boughton Funeral Home where relatives and friends had made visitation. The Rev. Curtis Anderson brought words of comfort to the family and many friends. Mr. Lassahn was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.

Fred Carl Lassahn, son of Albert and Amelia Junker Lassahn, was born Nov. 20, 1905 at Garner. In his infancy he was baptised in the Lutheran faith, later he received confirmation. His education was in the rural schools near Garner where he grew to manhood. On Sept. 19, 1928 he was united in marriage to Mary Spieker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Spieker. The wedding took place at Klemme. The couple established their home on a farm near Woden and farmed in the Woden-Crystal Lake area their entire lives.

They attended the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church. They were always active in community and farming programs. Their home was always open to every neighbor, friend and relative, especially to young people. Mr. Lassahn was a proficient raiser of livestock. He was interested in sports, especially fishing.

While in Algona Wednesday Mr. Lassahn became afflicted with a heart attack and was taken to St. Ann Hospital, it was there that he slept away, having attained the age of 64 years and 20 days. He is survived by his wife; three sisters, Mrs. Francis (Anna) Novle, Overton, Nebr.; Mrs. Clara Jelik, Clinton, Md.; Mrs. Ralph (Emma) Carolus, Clear Lake, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers, Frank, Albert, Herman, Arthur, August; William, Louis, Henry and Carl as well as his parents.
